Creating opportunities for connection, wellbeing, accessibility, and participation, so that nature can be enjoyed by all.

The Foundation supports initiatives that promote wellbeing, inclusion, and access to nature, helping ensure that people with different abilities can participate in outdoor experiences.

Accessibility & Inclusion

Nature Access for All

Inclusive Hiking for People with Mobility Challenges
Pioneering Trail Access for All in Lebanon

Since 2022, the Lebanon Mountain Trail Association has developed inclusive hiking opportunities for people with disabilities. With support from the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS) and management by UNDP, the initiative introduced Joëlette all-terrain wheelchairs from France.

LMTA trains specialized guides and organizes outings, including activities for children with disabilities in Lebanon’s nature reserves. These efforts help remove barriers to outdoor recreation and make the experience of nature more accessible.

Hiking for People with Visual Impairments
Expanding Access Through Sensory Experiences

Building on its inclusive hiking experience, LMTA has developed activities for people with visual impairments, using specialized directional bars and trained guides.

The program enables participants to experience the trails through movement, touch, sound, and other senses. Activities have included guided hikes and trail runs with blind participants.

Together, these initiatives demonstrate how appropriate equipment, trained guides, and community support can help make Lebanon’s natural heritage more accessible to all.

Events & Outdoor Experiences

Annual Hiking Events
Bringing Communities Together Through the LMT

The Lebanon Mountain Trail connects Lebanon’s northern mountains with its southern hills, crossing landscapes rich in natural and cultural heritage.

Each year, the Lebanon Mountain Trail Association organizes two signature hiking events: the Spring Thru-Hike, a month-long journey across the trail, and the Fall Trek, offering a shorter seasonal experience.

Beyond hiking, these events connect participants with rural communities, local guesthouses, traditional food, and the cultural heritage of the villages along the trail.

Running Events
Experiencing the LMT at a Different Pace

Trail-running events provide another way to experience the landscapes and communities of the Lebanon Mountain Trail.

In cooperation with 4 Seasons Mountain Trails, races take place in different seasons and sections of the LMT, from mountain trails in Aaqoura to routes in the Shouf Biosphere.

These activities encourage active engagement with nature while contributing to the visibility of the LMT as a destination for outdoor recreation.

Mountain Biking
Discovering the LMT on Two Wheels

While the Lebanon Mountain Trail is primarily a hiking trail, parts of the route can also be experienced by mountain bike.

Approximately 70% of the trail is considered bike-friendly, although conditions range from smooth dirt roads to technical mountain paths. Mountain biking offers another human-powered way to experience Lebanon’s landscapes, rural communities, and heritage.
